MANUAL THERAPY

MANUAL THERAPY - Is the use of hands-on techniques for treatment of health ailments of various etiologies and to improve range of motion in restricted joints.  Manual therapy is also used to stimulate the function of muscles, nerves, joints, and ligaments and for a wide range of problems which may include low back and neck pain and injuries, hip, knee, ankle/foot problems, post-surgical conditions, hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder problems, and injuries caused by accidents.  Physical treatments include soft tissue mobilization, various connective tissue techniques, myofascial release, craniosacral techniques, mobilization of joints, joint manipulation, mobilization of neural tissue, visceral and vascular mobilization, and strain and counterstrain.

VISCERAL MANIPULATION – When the human body is functioning optimally all of the organs and pulses flow together in perfect synchronicity.  This visceral system can be disrupted due to physical trauma but it can also be impacted by everyday activities.  When one organ is out of synchronization with a healthy system due to displacement, adhesion or abnormal tone, it can actually work against other organs and the mechanical structure of the body which can cause a host of ailments and dysfunctions.  Visceral Manipulation uses gentle movement to perpetuate healthy flow while recalibrating and balancing organs and flows that are out of synchronization.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY – Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach to balancing the craniosacral system, which is the environment comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  This type of manipulation eases restriction in the craniosacral system and encourages the body's natural healing mechanisms to bolster the central nervous system, dissolve stress, enhance health, and strengthen resistance to disease. CST was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.

NEUROMUSCULAR - Neuromuscular is a very specific form of manual therapy.  Neuromuscular bodywork is the utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial trigger points (glossary) to relievepain. This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system and muscular skeletal system. Injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress causes nerves to speed up their transmission, inhibiting equilibrium and making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction. Therefore, it is necessary to stabilize low levels of neurological activity to maintain normal function of the body and to enhance the function of joints and muscles, relieve pain, and speed up the healing process.

NEURAL MANIPULATIONNeural Manipulation as developed by Jean Pierre Barral, D.O., involves mechanical relationships between the cranium/spine hard frame to the dura and neural elements. It gives assessment and treatment approaches to address restrictions of the dural and neural components not commonly focused on with musculoskeletal symptoms.  Neural Manipulation locates and releases local nerve restrictions and at the same time examines the effect these local fixations have on the rest of the body.

POSITIONAL RELEASE THERAPYPositional Release Therapy (PRT) introduces the osteopathic concept which was developed by Dr. Lawrence Jones, D.O., (Strain and Counterstrain).  PRT aids in the evaluation and treatment of somatic dysfunctions, evaluates the cranium, cervical spine, thoracic spine, ribs, lumbar spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand for protective muscle spasm.  The practitioner finds protective muscle spasm through the palpation of tender points. By placing the person’s body or body part into a position of greater comfort we are able to relieve the tender point, pain, joint hypo mobility, fascial tension, and protective muscle spasm.  PRT alleviates both articular and soft tissue dysfunctions in the body, thus restoring proper pain-free movement.  This approach is useful in the treatment of both spinal and peripheral orthopedic problems.

MYOFASCIAL THERAPY Surgical procedures, trauma, and inflammatory responses can cause myofascial restrictions in the body's connective tissue which causes pain and limits motion. Myofascial therapy is a gentle technique that elongates this tissue thus eliminating pain and restoring motion to the fascial and attachments to muscle structures.

LYMPHATIC THERAPY Lymphatic Therapy uses wave like movements to activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems.  This therapy is useful for detoxification, tissue regeneration, inflammation, sinusitis, bronchitis and otitis, relief of chronic pain, reduction of chronic fatigue symptoms, reduction in stress, loss of vitality, loss of memory, fibromyalgia and improved circulation.  The practitioner detects the specific rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. We use specific subtle hands-on techniques for draining body fluid stagnations which activates lymph and interstitial fluids circulation, as well as stimulates the functionality of the immune and parasympathic nervous systems.

STRUCTURAL ALIGNMENT Structural Alignment is a specific type of body therapy developed after many years of working with Chiropractors, Yogic training with Master Yogi Bhajan and other esteemed Yogic & Chi-Gong and Tui Nai Masters, and the influence of Body Balance, Visceral Manipulation, Craniosacral, and Positional Release Therapy.  We examine, evaluate, balance and align the physical structures using manual therapy skills manipulating, repositioning, lengthening gaits, muscles, fascia, vascular, ligaments, tendons, bones, organs, and energetics systems of the human body.  This results in structural optimum position which encourages balance, efficiency and energetic alignment so one can move with greater ease, feel increased energy, experience effortless breath, increased flexibility, balanced coordination and an overall improvement in health.

VISCEROVASCULAR MANIPULATION Viscerovascular Manipulation was developed by Jean Pierre Barral, D.O.  The therapist uses very precise evaluation and treatment mobilization technique for the vascular system of the body.  The arteries dilate or diminish in diameter depending on the function of the body.  We also understand how compression along vascular structures creates restriction patterns and pain throughout the body. The therapist is trained to release restrictions along the vascular structures using direct techniques (such as compression, decompression and elongation) on the arteries, as well as indirect techniques using the limbs. This includes manipulation of the soft tissues of the heart, along with all of the arteries connected with the visceral system.  By doing this we increase blood circulation to an organ which improves function of the viscera, and improves blood circulation to organs (directly and/or indirectly). Treatment of the vaso-pressure system and the brain is included.

MANUAL ARTICULAR APPROACH (GLOBAL MANIPULATION) Manual Articular Approach (MAA) or Global Manipulation developed by Jean Pierre Barral, D.O. is a manual therapy modality that applies a comprehensive approach to the treatment of joints.  It integrates all aspects of the joint including the nerve, artery, bone, capsule, and ligaments, as well as visceral and emotional connections.  It examines the nerves of each joint, along with the arteries, meniscus, ligaments, capsule attachments and folds. It incorporates soft tissue mobilization of the associated bones, while looking at direct and indirect relationships between the bones of the body.  MAA shows how the joints and organs are interconnected.  Without addressing this visceral connection many joint issues may not fully resolve.

PERIPHERAL / CRANIAL NERVES Peripheral / Cranial Nerves developed by Jean Pierre Barral, D.O. is a manual therapy modality that applies a comprehensive approach treating peripheral / cranial nerves using techniques for nerves of the brain and cranial region. We discover typical pain patterns on the patient that arise from dysfunction of the brain and cranial nerves. We also use specific treatment techniques to facilitate normal functioning of these nerves. Further evaluation can work toward releasing skull, suture and brain fixations. Intercranial pressure plays an important role and affects the function of the entire body.  We will also use cranial techniques to bring about normal function.

BRAIN / SPINAL CORD MANIPULATION Brain / Spinal Cord Manipulation address very specific structures and physiology of the brain and spinal cord. The body often aligns itself around these precise structures and they are frequently unaddressed key/primary tissue restrictions. It will specifically help any brain and spinal related pathologies including closed head injury, whiplash, headaches, dyslexia, cerebral palsy, cognitive behavioral dysfunctions, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, post-meningitis syndrome, post-polio syndromes, birth difficulties or trauma, feeding difficulties, etc.

EMOTIONAL SYNTHESIS

NEURO-VISCERO-EMOTIONAL Neuro-Viscero-Emotional (NVE) is fusion of all the levels of the Visceral Manipulation and Neural Manipulation.  NVE is application of deeper knowledge in the structure, ligaments, and capsula in and nerves in the organs. The practitioner directly uses manipulation in compression and decompression in the organs, affecting energy of the organs, brain and nervous system and emotional components of the organs of the body in their inter-relationships.  We combine treatments to multiple organs and use techniques to treat the NVR components of a pain condition.

SOMATO-EMOTIONAL RELEASE SER developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy (CST) to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma. SER offers applications designed to enhance results using CST and other complementary therapies.  Using their precise listening and comprehensive skills SER therapists use refined palpitation and whole body evaluation to enhance the results of SER.  In SER we access and mobilize the avenues of expression working through more than 10 different body components, including the thoracic inlet, hard palate, and hyoglossal tissues releasing energy cysts.  Suppressed emotions can inhibit structural release.  Using SER we can release those emotions and free up the structure.

WHAT IS THE ETHERIC REALM? – In an individual, the etheric realm is where the subtle life-force body resides. It sustains the life of the physical body, and serves as the mold or matrix for the physical being. The subtle body contains all information about the human being: past, present and future. Also called "the blue ethers," this subtle body extends beyond the physical body; the practitioner can discern information from this non-linear dimension during the healing process. (This might mean accessing information about past lives, relatives who have passed on, karma, and more.) It is also the vehicle in which human beings go through the transitions of life and the process of death – even reincarnation. (In other words, you become One with the Spirit, or Godly Realms!)
